These types of printers work with two types of drivers:
Zebra (ZPL and EPL): supports third-party software, like browsers, but are unstable for sharing the printer on your local network.
Generic (Raw): supports only direct commands, but is more reliable for sharing the printer.
You can install the printer twice, one as ZPL or EPL and another as Raw.
Find out if your printer uses ZPL, EPL or EPL2 language.
Make sure your printer is turned on and connected to your computer.
Access CUPS with your system credentials and find the printer at Administration page.
"Add printer" with one of the following drivers:
Zebra: ZPL
Zebra: EPL
Zebra: EPL2
Generic: Raw
Open the Ridge Label Manager application.
Editing label sizes for third-party applications (like Chrome)
Do not install the printer in Raw mode. Use ZPL or EPL drivers.
You need ROOT privileges to modify sizes.
Filter copies fix for third-party applications (like Chrome)
For third-party applications, you can install a custom filter to the printer that fix some multiple copies issues.
Printers that have a display will show "1 of 1" regardless of the number of copies. The custom filter fix this showing the progress for each copy. For example: 2 of 4, 3 of 4...
On Linux, older printers and others with higher speeds selected pause for each label. The custom filter fixes this by letting the printers print without pausing.
For EPL2 printers, the filter will send the height and width of the label to the printer, so you won't need for manual calibration when you change the label format.
For shared printers on the network
On the host computer, access CUPS and add the printer as Raw. You can have the same printer as Zebra Driver or Raw at same time.
On the client computer, use "Find new printers", search the shared printer and install as ZPL, EPL or Raw.
